  1. yeah that's because if you have it it HAS to work, if you don't then it doesn't matter. As long as it's not something you need by law such as front lamps, brake lights etc etc then it can be safely taken off. for instance, i have no rear bench in my mk1 but i have the rear backrest on which has integrated seat belts. there are no clips for them to clipinto just now. so to pass an MOT i will have to either put the clips in, or take the backrest out.. i DON'T have to put the bench in for either option. If i put the bench in i would HAVE to put the rest and the seatbelts and clips in though. you don't need a rear wiper but you do need a working front wiper and spray (filled or you'll fail on it not being operational due to having no water).
  2. edam, banana (or peach) and whole grain mustard toasties; jam; or with your ham and/or cheese you could have: onion chutney or whole grain mustard to add that bit extra taste; thin sliced (pre-cooked) chicken and pesto; and pepperoni (or similar sausage/meat) and bbq sauce (or whatever sauce you prefer). hmm nomnomnom!
  3. i dunno if it was just my connection speed/vidcard but the video wasn't that clear and the driver could easily have been indicating their intentions to overtake/move out, that side of the car is mostly obscured by the biker himself and given the quality of the vid at my end there's no way i could tell if it's blinkers were on or not. Even if they hadn't they wouldn't have been able to clearly tell the speed the biker was going or what his intentions were (i didn't see him indicating either!) he was going to fast, not indicating, not judging the road and traffic ahead of him properly. While i don't know him etc i feel no sympathy at all for him popping his clogs, he was the main cause of the incident (it certainly wasn't an 'accident' by any definition of the word as it was completely avoidable) by dangerous driving in a built up are with traffic on both sides of the road, he obviously had no regard for his or anyone elses safety. I feel sorry for the driver of the car he hit, the van driver and anyone else (bar his mate) who witnessed it and dealt with the aftermath. His mate should have been banged up for 3 years for dangerous driving and banned from driving for life imho. I don't have anything against bikers, i used to cycle to work so know how stupid car/van/bus drivers can be, i always make sure i give them room to pass, i'm never up their arse in a queue or at lights just in case someone rear ends me, always look for them and always assume they will filter. The ones round us are 99% brilliant and say thanks when then can etc but that guy totally gives considerate bikers a bad name. in fact the only time i curse all bikers is when i'm stuck in a traffic jam and they filter past, gits.
  4. i always give learners and p-platers heaps of room etc, i wasn't a nervous driver learning but i was abit slow on the uptake on the first 5 or so lessons so know how it feels. Besides, i don't know how many lessons in the poor sod is so if they are going slower than the limit i assume it's their first lesson and give them loads of room and expect them to balls up. If, however, someone is in front of me and up the learners arse, i do the same to them to see how they like it. i know i shouldn't but i can't help it. I will say though that learner drivers have a reason for being crap, what's the driving instructors excuse? How bad are they when they drive by themselves! 90% of the ones round us are abysmal, well on par with the coppers inability to drive well! On the other hand, if someone is driving slowly because they lack confidence, just like dawdling or don't know what the hell they are doing in a car and don't have any plates on THEN i get annoyed. If after you've passed your test and you drive at 20mph below the limit or stop at EVERY SINGLE OPEN JUNCTION AND ROUNDABOUT for no reason just stop driving! please! get the bus! If your not confident either have more lessons or GIVE UP! I have no patience for ditherers, in a car or otherwise! Remember: the speed limit IS the target!
  5. EH? Adam are you on drugs?
  6. pretty horrendous, i've signed it, i'd rather the care and money went to a kid than some self inflicted fat, smoking eejit who's in for binge drinking et al. or NHS tourists (having worked in the NHS i know they EXIST! I wrote the reject letters for a few) Understand your point of view tho, unheard, as you said it's your opinion, nowt wrong wi it. I would say tho the birth certificate thing should be the least they do, it's been born alive, how is it not entitled to one! ridiculous.
  7. lots of luck for finding it! Hope it's ok and whoever's taken it gets mysteriously run over soon after it's found. give your poor sis a hug.
  8. sack the lot, vote for me to rule the world and you'll soon see a difference! i love the mp's that go... "oh yes it should be abolished, i've been using but i only do it to the letter of the green bible, i don't agree with all the expenses we're allowed"... then why bloody put in your slips for them then you lying sack of donkey turd? go get a proper job, oh wait you can't cos you dont' have any qualifications you gutter-water drinker. i swear i should be world ruler, i would happily shoot the tax-dodging-looting mps, and various other nefarious ne'r-do-wells.
  9. your supervisor sounds like a tit, i have to say. during your meeting you can ask (demand actually, but asking is best) that a third party of your choice is there with you to act as a witness to the meeting, a mate or a member of family etc. that way it's not your word against 2 or more others from the company. you can also ask that it be taped or minutes taken. though minutes being taken should be done without your request. also you said driving was involved, there are other regs and laws on that, with regards to breaks etc http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg382.pdf see page 17 http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg382.pdf as i don't know exactly what your job entails, can't be much more help that that. hope that helps tho.
  10. no she's talking ballbags, you do not have to do overtime or extra shifts if you have done them in the past. while on probation/written warnings it is best to do all you can to show your a team player etc, but you shouldn't have to go above and beyond what you reasonably and safely feel you can do. YOu are under no obligation to do extra hours and again you do not have to give reasons for not doing the extra hours, however it's usually best to say why. the working time directive thing that you probably signed to say that you would work over the normal working hours, is merely to let you work your normal shift pattern as they will take you over the however-many-hours that is reasonably expected by non-shift-work employers, it does not mean that you are obligated or can be made to do overtime/extra shifts at your employers request. It is up to the firm to get cover, which they did, and as i said they shoudn't be asking someone just coming off a shift to go straight into a new shift without 12 hrs break. If i were you on your next shift, or before if you are now on your break, go and speak to your supervisor face to face (be pleasant and polite and don't let him anger you if you can) ask why you are suspended, this should have been explained to you, they can't just tell you your suspended they have to give a valid reason and give you it in writing. read your contract again to make sure you know what's expected of you and if you can use any of it to your advantage before you go. You may have in your contract that you are expected to do so many hours overtime in a year, however they cannot stipulate when/which overtimes you agree to do, they cannot for example say that this one time they asked was one of those contracted overtimes, you have to agree to do it in advance or if you're feeling benevolent at short notice if the circumstances are out of your employers hands, however you are not obligated to do all overtime asked of you and you are not obligated to do any particular overtime as your prior engagements/appointments and general health should be taken into consideration first and foremost. As long as you do the hours stated in the contract (if it is so stated) per year then they cannot give you a bollocking or treat you any differently than other employees because of it. If you have any doubts about anything phone up your HR, if they are any good they will give you proper advice on what you can and can't do regarding your situation. you can always look up security rules etc online i'm sure there's heaps of legislation on the internet about it. http://www.statutelaw.gov.uk/legResults.as...xtDocId=2847865 the working time regulations act 1998. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Emp...Off/DG_10028439
  11. oh yes, forgot to say, that even if you signed the working over 40 hours a week form saying that you are willing to work over the gov allocated time becuase of the type of work you do, this does not mean that you have to work overtime or extra shifts etc. also you had just finished your shift, or coming to the end of it when they asked, they should first have asked those already on down time, not those currently in a shift or about to go on one unless they can spare person from that particular site. They can ASK you to cover a few hours over your shift until someone else suitable is found etc, or you can agree to work the whole shift. you can't be made to work longer than your current shift and be expected to go back to your next shift right after either... so there!
  12. I used to work in security so: yes it was a reasonable request, but being overtime, it will state in your contract that you do not have to take overtime when it is offered. it is as it says OVERTIME and therefor voluntary. It is up to the company to get someone to work a shift if someone falls ill not the employee. If you want short notice holiday it is up to you to find a replacement from within your team if you can or frm another nearby site if you can't. You are in no way in the wrong here, you do not need to give them a reason for not doing the overtime. They cannot suspend you for not doing something that is not in your normal remit/contract. they cannot tell you over the phone you are suspended they have to do it at least face to face with a letter confirming it. your previous misdemeanours etc should not be taken into account for this supposed transgression as it is not part of your contract (check your contract to make sure just in case different companies have different rules and regs). go to you next shift, in uniform etc, go there with the expectation to do work, don't go there thinking you might get sent home as this will show in your attitude/ general demeanour. Check that they haven't suspended you for the on going written warning you've already received. talk to cab as they will be able to advise you properly and may be able to let you know of a security union. good luck mate.
  13. i assume getting a lupo or similar as a weekend car is out of the question? it's why i have a furbie vrs AND a mk1 golf (and unfortunately still have my poor almost ignored lupo due to lack of interest). furbie for daily murderous A34 milage and the golf for fun country sunday driver scaring.
  14. yep, write to you council with pics of the damaged bit of road, put a date stamp on the photo if they don't reply in 2 weeks send another photo with another date stamp keep doing it till you get a reply or a fix. Tell them that the dip is causing damage to your car and that you are considering billing them for the replacement parts. you shouldn't have to 'avoid' damaged bits of road as it is not always safe or practical to do so, they have a duty to make sure the road is up to standard so don't feel that your being a pest or are causing a fuss for nothing, complain away, no point paying road tax if you don't get the benefit surely.
