  1. Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can get a power steering pump for a 1.4 16v S with air-con please? (other than VW) Is it the same as any of the Polo models by any chance? Neither GSF or Europarts list one for the loop, but they do for the polo. Finally, is it a big job to do? Anyone done it? Anything I need to look out for? Any help grateful Cheers
  2. Sorry to highjack this thread, but got a similar kinda question (also a bit of a sanity check for me!) If I got some steels 6" wide with ET of 38 and had them banded to 8" then the ET becomes 12, is that right? If so, would I end up with poke on a standard Lupo (not a gti)? Would stretched tyres help? (I was thinking of 195s) Cheers
  3. Ello peeps So for a while I've had this funny noise when I make a right turn. The best way I can describe it is imagine you have a warped disc with a stone stuck in your pad, so everytime the high (or low depending on how you look at it) bit of the warped pad hits the stone you get a scraping noise. But only on a right bend.... So I figured it was the front discs - maybe a lip on the disc was catching the pad when it went round a bend - sounds rediculous but I couldn't work out an alternative. The discs and pads were due a change anyhow so it made sense. Anyway - changed them, checked the hubs etc at the same time and it all looked ok, drove up the road - round the roundabout - noise is still there. ARGH!!!! Now, having done lots of slow driving around quiet roundabouts with the windows open I'm starting to think it is coming from the back nearside wheel. I had the wheel bearing replaced on that side some months ago and the noise has happened since then, so i don't know if it could be a problem with the bearing or if something is rubbing in the drum cause by when they took it off to replace the bearing. But I still don't get why it only does it going around a right bend. It sort of suggests to me the hub is lose, but I'd have thought I'd feel that when driving. Anyone got any ideas? Could it be the drums? They are probably due a replacement, or could it be the hub bearing? Cheers guys edit: forgot to add - its currently on standard wheels and suspension and its a 1.4s lupo
  4. Hey guys - need some help please. I've got a rattly noise coming from my Loops 1.4 16v engine (not sport). It only usually happens when the engine is warm, particularly after a motorway run, and when under load between tickover and about 2000rpm. It sounds a bit to me like a warn alternator bearing or belt tensioner, it's certainly coming from that side of the engine. I had the water pump and cambelt and tensioners replaced about a month ago, and this hasn't affected the noise at all (it was there before and there after, although it does seem to be getting louder.) This may sound a bit odd, hopefully someone else is on my wave length, but it reminds me of a diesel because iv heard a lot of diesels make a very similar sound. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be, or suggestions on how I could determine what it is? The fact it won't do it with the engine running but not under load makes things a bit tricky. Any help gratefully recieved Cheers
  5. Yeah I checked out tirestretch first and I still can't find what i want! :-) this is a 165/40R16 and I know Nankangs don't stretch very nicely (Kumho's look better, but only a bit) and this is a bit too severe for me (plus I do worry a bit about the legal/safety side - have I just kicked off another debate??!! :-) ) this is a 195/40R16 and it doesn't really look stretched at all to me. so I don't know if it is down to just brands and how they stretch. Maybe the one in the original pic on the grey loop is a 195 but a narrower brand? I guess I want something inbetween. I know you can get 175/50R16 and 185/50R16 but I don't know if the larger sidewall would make it look odd or stretch correctly? Any ideas or comments guys? Cheers, J
  6. Hey, Anyone know whose loop this is or what size tires are on it? I've got a set of 928 rims like this and need to get some rubber on them but aren't sure what size to go for. Personally I think the 165/40R16 is just a bit too stretched, but I think maybe 195/40R16 is going to look too fat. I quite like the look of the ones on this loop and wondered if anyone could tell me what they are? Cheers, J
  7. Hi I've got the 1.4S 16v and was wondering whats the differences between it and the 1.4 Sport engine? In other words, is it possible to swap bits over fro the Sport engine to get mine upto the same power? If so, what do I need to change? Cheers in advance J
  8. Yeah I reckon. From what I understand (and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong ;-) ) the clutch release bearing gets grabby which is what makes it heavy which then puts excessive strain on the cable and pedalbox causing them to go. If you get the clutch replaced make sure they replace the release arm at the same time. Still not sure what is up with mine as Iv had everything replaced - I'v run out of possible causes I can think of. Hey Paul R - how long ago did u get urs done?
  9. Hi guys, Ok - bit of history. I bought my loop (1.4S 16v) about a year ago. Had a new clutch cable fitted when i bought it as the pedal was quite heavy but as I'm sure you can guess this didn't solve the problem of a very stiff pedal and the bite point being on the floor. Took it to a couple of garages and they both had a look and told me it wasn't the pedal box but the release bearing on the clutch. So, I got the clutch replaced about 4 months ago and the pedal was much lighter and for the first month or so the bite was mid-pedal. After this forst month the bite moved closer to the floor. I figured it was the clutch bedding in so I adjusted the cable and it was fine again. A month later it had gone to the floor again. Adjusted it, 2 weeks later - it's biting on the floor again. This carried on for another month or so until I thought I really had to get it looked at again. I was sure it was the release arm bending as I had discounted it being the pedal box as 2 seperate garages had looked at it and said not. Took it to another garage and within 10 minutes of looking they said it WAS the pedalbox, so I got it replaced. They showed me the old one and sure enough it had fractured on a weld and was slowly bending and moving out of place. All had been good for the following weeks since except that the clutch pedal had been a bit creaky. Then yesterday I was just pulling out of a parking space and changing into second when clutch pedal twanged and I had no clutch. Thankfully the car park was pretty empty so I managed to pull over and knock it out of gear and stop. Popped the bonnet and had a look around and I noticed that the clutch cable had gone slack. Thankfully I still had a couple of spanners in the car for adjusting them when it kept biting on the floor, so I retightened it and it felt fine. Infact, it felt a bit better than before as it didn't seem to be creaking anymore. Im a bit worried about driving it now though - I've lost confidence in it. What do you reckon was wrong? Could it be that the end of the cable wasn't sat in the pedal properly and it had just popped into place? I'd be very grateful for any suggestions or ideas. Cheers guys, J
  10. Hey m8 - looks like my luck has finally changed - wayhay!!! Was getting really hacked off with the gearchange over the weekend - crunching into reverse and second - generally stiff everywhere else - whilst deciding what choice words I would be using with the garage today Anyway - noticed that the bite point was a little low - about half an inch off the bottom - so, wasn't expecting it to make much difference but thought I'd give it a try and adjusted it to bite a bit higher. It's fantastic now - no crunching in any gear - no matter how hot. Make sure ur garage gets it set right before you leave m8. I still seem to be hitting a brick wall sometimes going from 5th to 3rd but I can live with that and I'm still trying to find out if I should get the gearbox oil changed or not and if it will make it any better. As soo as i find out I'l post it up. Best of luck m8
  11. Ok, so driving home - all good - waaaaaaay lighter clutch and much easier changing down gear. Get home - all happy Head out later - driving round town - crunch into second. Think "eh-up - that shouldn't happen" but put it down to a lower bite point on the clutch and me being a bit "enthusiastic." Bit later - changing down from 5th to 3rd - locked gate. Hmmm Driving into work this morning - crunch into second and again, changing from 5th to 3rd, a locked gate. Needless to say I'm not overjoyed with happiness at the moment. I'm wondering if the release arm is not in good shape and they didn't change it - if that's the case I really ain't going to be happy as that's going to mean taking the damn thing apart again when they should've done it yesterday. Otherwise - is it the gearbox? Does the oil need changing despite what he says? It's not got a high mileage (53k on a 99 plate) but as i picked it up with 48k on it I've got no idea how it spent those miles. The only other thing I could think was if the cable change is worn. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any help/suggestions would be great guys!
  12. Well, gearchange has been getting more and more difficult, clutch heavier and crunchy gonig into reverse over the past week so took the loop to a couple of vw specialists and they both had a look at it and both said the pedalbox was ok (both agreed that it can be a problem but both checked it out and in my case it was fine) and both said that the release bearing was most likely the problem. So got it booked in today to have clutch kit fitted. Will update tomorrow to say what it feels like. One thing though - one garage said they would replace the gearbox oil as that can smooth the gearchange, one said the complete opposite - saying that in their opinion it is sealed for life and that in their experience changing the oil only causes selection problems. I went with this garage as they could fit it in quicker and was fine with me getting the clutch kit myself (£190+ supplied by garage - £65 from GSF) Any ideas on which is right? Anyone reckon it is worth checking to see if it just needs topping up? I got the pukka stuff from vw cheers guys
  13. Bit of a left field suggestion - but doesn't Dog the Bounty Hunter wage the war against crime in Hawaii? If nothing else you'd get the prize for most unique outfit
  14. "Injury Lawyer 4 U" adverts and Martine McCutcheon and stinky breath - man i hate that
  15. Yup - missed it too but got the passes - but I reckon I'd have got it if my boss hadn't walked past midway through Hey, Yellow Lupo Chick, how u doin'?
