  1. No one said anything about grounding...
  2. Any time there is misfire do a compression test ideally before spending money on bits. As you have an odd plug it is good indicator for mechanical problem.
  3. Mine are Koni with Eibach springs, not sure of the drop maybe 50mm, it doesnt scrape it's just hard, and yes we know about weight transfer on braking.
  4. Mine is lowered but not stupidly low and speed bumps are a pain in the neck, I have to slow down to practically walking pace unless i want a busted windscreen.
  5. Did you spot my duct tape? Hybrid turbo, Wavetrac LSD, Koni sport suspension, Whiteline anti roll bar and a few other bits and bobs.
  6. Do a compression test to satisfy yourself that it isnt mechanical before spending money on bits. Testers for petrols are sub £20 so no point paying someone to do it and then you have it for years. But it does just sound like a sensor or no fuel getting thru. Pull the plugs and if they are wet then fuel is getting thru, they should all be similar colour and condition (look up plug charts), if not note which cylinder the odd one came out of.
  7. Sorry i led you on, I cant sell mine, it wont let me.
  8. Mine was as a 2nd car on a separate policy with 0 NCD on it and all mods declared so it isnt going to be comparable to a single policy daily driver with little or no mods declared. Currently SORN'd as insurance is out and want to do some work on it (more power, might even get around to some body work ) should be back on the road march / april. NCD maxes out at 9 years afaik as that's all i have on my main policy but either way, respect for the driving.
  9. Only bother with one post march 2001 (Y plate) to get the £30 tax band. MPG depends on how you drive it and other factors like tyres remap state of the engine etc. Insurance should be low if it is standard or near enough.
  10. This thread had me wavering in my commitment to keep my tdi until it is a classic, I blame that huge 4x4 I just bought to play with but I will now go for 30 minutes of self flagellation until this thought passes..... Mines a shed in black but has lots of expensive trick bits on it to make it handle and go fast btw....
  11. Unless you have extremely deep pockets then it isnt doable. Get some NCD under you belt.
  12. Yah, after finally watching the vid was about to say that has 0 compression and probably jumped teeth on the cambelt.
  13. Not speaking from personal experience as i have never made an insurance claim in 30 years of driving, but it is a well documented fact that it is when you need them most that an insurance company shows its true colours and some are on the pathetic end of the spectrum. Someone on here had a Mk 2 golf stolen from their driveway and it was found burnt out in a field, the insurance company would not pay out as it was found off the road. I would sorely love to know which bunch of crooks that insurance company was.
  14. Assuming you just dont have an air lock in the system, then draining it into a pan or something and looking for bits of water pump impeller seems like a a reasonable idea (as you have limited water flow in your heater at normal revs). If the coolant isnt too rusty and looks fresh you can stick it back in again. Flushing and reverse flushing the system (matrix, block, rad) with a hose pipe until clear should show if you had a partial blockage of the matrix. You may as well take the thermostat out at the same time as said above. I dont know where it is on the 1.0 though.
  15. What he said. Take the hoses off and flush the matrix, block and radiator until clear and look for debris, dont forget the antifreeze when you top it up again.
  16. If you are a new driver and dont have any no claims discount built up I'd highly recommend you leave the car standard for the 1st year and try hard to get that 1st years ncd before bothering with any mods. Yours is lowered and has wheels on already though....
  17. The switch on the pedal will have some way of adjusting its position. Ok edit: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1158315
  18. Can't view your attachment for some reason says not allowed, you need to see if you have any error codes logged using vcds preferably. snapped belt and loud after could be related to the belt like a seized pulley or it may be nothing to do with it.
  19. Oooh, it's like that is it? 1st one to blow their engine wins.
  20. Noice! That a gutted stainless one? I think my map will be fine on yours but i am no expert in these things as it's all pretty new to me too so is done at your own risk. My loop is off the road as insurance is out and SORNed it, I'm trying to get my garage into some sort of order to get it in there for some tinkerings and back on the road again march / april time. Will be playing with the maps then.
  21. If you haven't got 1 year ncd yet then you should stick the car back to standard and be patient until you have that ncd under your belt. pretty pointless to waste your 1st years insurance by having to cancel the policy for very little if any refund and then go start all over again elsewhere. You will need to shop around and mods means doing it on the phone not on comparison sites. AIB and Brentacre seem like good choices but pretty sure they want some ncd before they consider you. You wont find many recommending Flux these days. http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/194706/adrian-flux-roadhalo
