  1. My mistake, I meant the Exhaust system warning light. It is the petrol version that has the Engine management light.
  2. Two years ago had a similar problem with my 1.4Tdi. The EGR valve was all sooted up. Had to replace the EGR. Been fine ever since.
  3. Had a look at the back of the engine, it is tight but I will have a go removing and cleaning the manifold. Thanks. I thought of cleaning the EGR but Ridex EGR is around £30 see https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/ridex/8095043 so will go for it.
  4. Looking more carefully under the bonnet, I agree removing the flexible pipe is a must. I am now more confident in giving it a try. Is it not dangerous to try and clean the inlet manifold? if you accidently drop something into the inlet it would go straight into the cylinders. How did you clean the manifold?
  5. Thanks - Does the flexish pipe stay in position or do you have to remove it? Looking at the flexish pipe flange, even if you remove the two bolts on it, the flange looks like it will prevent you from removing the bottom EGR bolt. What type of allen key did you use, because this flang does not leave any room to put the allen key into the bolt head? Or when you undone the two bolts on the flexish pipe did you push the pipe out of the way then access the EGR bolt? Or did you remove the flexible pipe altogether?
  6. I want to remove and replace my Lupo 1.4TDi EGR valve. However, the bottom EGR bolt is almost impossible to access because there is the exhaust\EGR flange right next to this bolt. How did you mange to undo this bolt and what tools did you use?
  7. Has anyone managed to remove the EGR valve from a Lupo 1.4TDi.? Three allen key bolts hold the EGR to the manifold body. The top two I can easily reach, however the 3rd, at the bottom, is difficult to access because just in front of it sits the EGR/Exhaust flange bracket preventing me from acessing/removing this bottom EGR bolt.
  8. The car works perfectly well (95k on clock) - no misfiring or sluggishness. If it is only 3 bolts to remove the EGR I might give it a clean. If I replaced with a new EGR would any software need re-mapping. Finally I will take it on the motorway, as you suggest. Since covid began almost stopped using it, so have not gone above 50 mph is two years - 150 miles in total. I will also delete the EGR error code and see if it comes back. If it is the camshaft, I got no way to check, then it would have to be goodbye. Incidentally the cambelt got changed at 75k miles.
  9. My car is a 2004 Lupo 1.4 TDi. I recently had the EGR warning lamp come on and staying on. My Diagnostic scanner shows a DTC error - EGR valve is faulty. I have hardly used the car in 2 years and then only on short trips. I'm guessing due to the fact that my short journeys never raised the engine temperature thus resulting in exhaust muck building up in the EGR valve. I would like to clean the EGR valve but got no idea how to do it and how easy it is to remove (or replace). Anyone had similar EGR problems who could help me?
  10. I have a rear black lupo bumper in good condition. Price £5 Tel: 07340020922
  11. Thanks for the replies - Had the bottom panel off but the cable harness is not the problem. The windows stops short with a solid sounding clunk as if it was hitting something hard. I will have to take the top panel off and have a look.
  12. Lupo TDi 1.4. The drivers side windows only goes down 2/3rds of the way, otherwise the window goes up and down with no problems. Any ideas? I have put in new up/down window switches about 3 months ago. Only stopped going fully down one week ago?
  13. KiwiYork - I suggest you get yourself a multimeter and do the parasitic battery current drain check (see youtube). When you do this check taking out the radio fuse will identify if your radio circuit is the culprit.
  14. Yes the current drops when the door lock led flashes, however, if you use the internal door lock switch (not the key) to lock the door then the led does not flash and current does not drop? This fault or design feature will have to remain a mystery. I now have trained myself to always lock the door, even when after I put the car in my locked garage and no longer have flat batteries. Last year this fault/design feature made me wrongly buy a new car battery.
  15. I kept it in my locked garage and got into lazy habit of not locking the car. I don't think it has a problem, I think something is kept alive and is only shut down when it sees you have locked it.
  16. The interior light was in the permanent off position. You had to lock the car with the key to stop the current drain, locking it from the interior central locking switch would not stop the drain. In the key locked state opening the boot had no effect to the locked drain current mode, however, as soon as you used the key to unlock the car (without actually opening the door) the drain would begin. The lesson is: you are not doing the battery any good by regularly leaving it parked for long periods unlocked.
  17. Friendly warning. If you leave your car unlocked (even if the door is shut) then your battery parasitic current drain could be so high as to flatten the battery within a few days.I measured my parasitic drain current and found it to be 110 mA, whilst the car was shut but unlocked, however, it went down to 10mA as soon as I locked the car. I think the spec says ideally it should be lower than 20mA when the car is locked. This suggests that in a unlocked car some unit is still alive and drawing current, and as soon as you lock the car that unit is switched off.
  18. I have decided to withdraw the sale and keep the Lupo for another year or two.
  19. I will try ebay first, if no sale then touch it up in the spring and try again.
  20. My car from new with no modifications. Service history. From new VW fitted: air con (never switched on), sun-roof, removable tow bar used to pull a small camping trailer. New precautionary cambelt fitted around 80,000 miles. Never had any problems and still runs well. Bodywork has the usual small bumps and scrapes. MOT to October. Garaged for most of its life. Sorry no shinny gleam - car polish is not my thing. The electric wing mirrors, although working ok, have been bashed about a bit, but I do have have two replacements to go with the sale. No previous owners. Price £2500 ONO.
  21. Tomorrow I will start a new for sale thread with asking price of £2000.
  22. Ooops got my 2 replaced by 3 - I meant £2000
