  1. Make: VW Lupo Model: 1.4 TDI Sport Year: 2001 MOT: 12 Months (July 2019) TAX: £30 a year Engine size: 1422cc Fuel type: Diesel Mileage: 131k Description including modifications: I'm pretty sad to be finally selling my beloved Lupo TDI after enjoying it for the past 10 years, but really hope it can go to someone who'd love to keep it a while, (or perhaps even turn it into a classic some day...dreaming here...! ??) TDI Lupos are even rarer than rare these days, and there's only one other TDI on Autotrader at the moment (which is a Cat C). My description taken from Autotrader ad - A rare 1.4 TDI Sport Lupo in brilliant lime green with matching interior. OEM apart from the H&R springs. Nippy turbo and 50MPG around town makes it both fun and affordable to drive. Super cheap tax. Just had a full professional valet inside and out. Two previous lady owners and 4 owners total. Only 200 miles covered in the past year (I cycle to work all the time now) and just 4000 miles in the past 3 years. As I have owned the Lupo for a decade, I also have 10 years worth of service receipts and MOT reports, and also have the manual with service history stamps stretching back to when the car was new. It has its two original VW keys. The TDI engine is still nippy and strong and the cambelt was replaced by a Volkswagen dealer garage in Summer 2015 at 127000 miles. Brand new battery recently purchased in March 2018. H&R 30mm Cup Lowering springs & shocks suspension kit fitted in October 2016 (Cost £400) which improved the handling immensely. New electric window regulators were fitted in both doors this month when it went in for its MOT, and other work has been done as the windows stopped working for a bit. New windscreen fitted around 6 years ago. Two Dunlop tyres on the front and two Nexen on the rear. 14" VW Alloy Wheels (Original) Some marks on front bumper, headlight surround and rust spots in places, such as in the roof gulleys and around the corner of back window, but not bad for a 17 year old car, it still looks smart. Interior upholstery is Tim&Tom lime green and grey which is still in good condition, and the car still has its original VW fitted stereo and CD Player in working condition. Apart from replacing the suspension (as the original suspension was knackered) I have kept everything else on the car original since I've owned it, with no other modifications inside or out. Perhaps this might make it a great car project for an original spec VW enthusiast? Any questions please just ask - contact via Autotrader ad. If you know of someone who'd love this car, please share the ad. Thank you so much! ? 2. I guess! I've seen other posts with wiper issues and stalk replacements on here so know I'm not alone. When mine malfunctioned, 4 years ago now, the wipers were stuck on fast wipe and wouldn't turn off, the only way I could stop them was to remove the fuse from the fusebox! Both wipers and indicators should be good to go for another 10 years now at least...
  3. Thanks Skezza. Also for explaining about the flashing led, that's good to know. I actually let the garage continue to look at it because they informed me that they'd got in another auto electrician and also got hold of some Lupo wiring diagrams (where previously they'd been bodging, as you said!!) - which gave me hope. They went on to discover that when they replaced the indicator stalk, someone had pulled too much on the wiring for it, leading to some of the cowls and wires becoming half disconnected right down above the driver's footwell - probably also in the area you mention, too. I've just had a call from them this morning and they are dropping the car off today and it's apparently all working now, locking, lights, everything, (at no extra charge) so I'll be carefully checking everything when I get back in from work later to make sure...! Good that this is all documented on here now, because I've noticed Lupo indicator/wiper stalks seem to fail at 10+ years, both of mine have, and if a mechanic is a bit rough when replacing one there could be secondary electrical issues like I've had. It's well worth people just looking for loose wires/connectors before spending a lot of money. Thanks again!
  4. Not sure where to start on this but here's a summary of my fortnight's Lupo drama (which may still turn into a multi-episode series....) I have a 2001 1.4 TDi Sport with front electric windows, mirrors, and central locking. I've owned it six years and it's been an awesome car, but it's had a few little annoying things along the way. Car very recently went in to garage for a full service, MOT and replacement of a faulty indicator stalk/switch. Car passed MOT after replacement of two split front brake pipes. Went to pick car up from the garage that same evening. First thing I did when I sat in the car was go to wind the driver's electric window up a bit, but it was totally dead. Not even a clicking sound. The garage had wound it all the way down into the door when servicing it, and had presumably not noticed it had stopped working. All I know is that it has been working ok since I bought the car 6 years ago and it was working when I took the car in for service that morning! I went back into their office to complain. The garage apologised and fixed this for me free of charge (I've been servicing my car there for 10+ years without a problem usually) The next day they said it needed a new earth cable to the door (they just completely replaced it) and they also said something about a new window regulator for the driver's door. I go to pick up the car on another evening, the indicator and the electric window is now working, but on the drive home I noticed that the driver's door lock now unlocked sluggishly (As if it were a manual one, not electric) and the windscreen wipers no longer parked, but stopped in the middle of the screen when I switched them off, both on normal wipe and wash wipe....! The red LED immobiliser lights on the door panels also no longer flash when I lock the car. When I lock the car from the passenger's side the driver's door now doesn't lock either. I think the garage must have not connected (or broken) the power wires to the locking system on the driver's door when they fixed the window... So the car is back in the garage this morning, and I haven't heard from them as yet. When I dropped it off the mechanic said that the windscreen wipers were an easy fix, but then also said something about the wiper motor possibly having a problem. (I'm not convinced it's the wiper motor, if it comes to that I won't let them replace it! The wiper stalk/switch is also only 4 years old and I had that replaced by a VW electrical mechanic) Seeing as the garage passed the car in MOT, I presume they checked my wipers and found them working (as they were!) so even if they were sloppy and didn't check them they can't come back to me for that. I have had decent service from them in the past, but what I'm not sure about is whether to just take the car away from this garage and let a Volkswagen garage run diagnostics on it? Would it be worth doing this for electrical problems, or a waste of money? Also I'm worrying if it might be the ECU.....? Could it be? Any comments, advice appreciated. Many thanks!
  5. What a great resource this is. I've owned my 2001 Lupo TDI Sport since 2008, it's given me a lot of joy in that time and still does, but after a recent visit to the garage it's suddenly been plagued with several electrical problems... It had its indicator switch/stick replaced, but then the O/S electric window stopped working, not even a clicking sound of the switch trying to work. Garage took it back, looked at that, got that working, (window regulator and earth cable) but now the windscreen wiper is not parking on normal wipe or wash wipe, the central locking only works manually on the driver's side and the immobiliser light doesn't flash.... Sigh...!! It's still the best car I've ever owned, engine loves any hill or dale, it's solid despite its age and 126k on the clock, just light corrosion on roof at the back and a couple of chips on the bonnet, it's been a work commuter, and leisure, trips to Cornwall, Scotland and Wales (and a couple of queue shunt accidents...) so hopefully I can afford to fix whatever these problems are.... I'll post more detail about issues in another thread!
