  1. Hi guys, Do you know how many and where are the ground spots located on a TDI Lupo? Thanks
  2. Almost two weeks after, and after replacing the MAP sensor by a new one (which leaded no improves), the car gained power again after turning the engine off and on again while driving a down sloped road at 60mph. When the engine was restarted I could hear a 3-beep noise coming from the instruments and after engaging the 5th I noticed the car got the turbocharger working again. This is strange, perhaps the car has its own mood.
  3. Hi, After leaving the car out of the garage and letting it dry with the help of the sun rays, the engine finally started. Unfortunately with no turbo boost, so it may only have half of the power, about 30hp :-) The funny noise I've been listening to and now disappeared seems to be one of or the two vacuum valves that control either the turbocharger vanes or the EGR valve (engine code: AYZ and has a vacuum controlled EGR). The error I got and now makes all the sense was: 18000 - Altitude sensor / boost pressure sensor: Implausible correlation I will probably need to replace the sensor, perhaps the high moisture air I got on the car wash have damaged it, or it may need to be cleaned, do you know any procedure to avoid making more damage to the car? Thank you for all the replies!
  4. Hi, Today I went to give my Lupo the first wash of the year. I chose the most complete washing program which includes cleaning under the car. The lights went green to start washing, I entered and turned the engine off. When the washing finished, I tried to start the engine, but it didn't. After some tens of crank revolutions the engine finally started, but I got the glow plug yellow light flashing (the one similar to a coil). When I arrive home I managed to connect the VAGCOM to the ECU, cleaned all the engine (0x01) errors and the flashing glow plug light turned off. Nice. Following this I tried to start the engine twice, and it fired with no problems. Nice. The worse was yet to come. Later I needed to go somewhere and turned the key on 2nd position. Waited the glow plug light to turn off, and it did, but I noticed something strange, I didn't hear the low pitched vibrating sound I was used to hear after turning the key to 2nd and before starting the engine. This was followed by hundreds of crank revolutions trying to start the engine, and it didn't, yet. I don't know where the sound I was used to hear came from. I don't know what is causing the engine not to fire. I am guessing it is related to the fuel feeding, but I can't relate it to the washing. Can you please share some ideas how to solve it? Thank you, Durao
  5. It seems you have three issues related to lubrication. My 3L starter does a noise after starting just like your GTI seems to do. Its been 6 months and it's still working. The noise increases and decreases from time to time with no apparent reason. One day it will stop working. I had that electric winder issue twice, the winder relay "clicks" with no response from the motor, and you can see the headlights going out a bit when this happens. On the first time it went to the electrician who said the electric winder had to be replaced and it cost around 150£. The second time we left it like that and a few months later it started working again, perhaps it was stuck due to friction on the rails on that season of the year. Lubrication could have helped. The door squeaking is easy to solve, lubricate the two hinges and that flat rod between them assuring the lubricant is spread on its whole extension. In both cases try white lithium grease.
  6. Hi, My Lupo rear window defogger is not working and the button is red lit even when depressed (it should turn yellow). I have done some diagnoses already: -The resistance wires built on the rear window are not broken and the multimeter current flows between the terminals when the power wires are disconnected. -I have replaced the control button on the dashboard with one from other Lupo and the problem remained, but my button worked on the other Lupo. I think there should be a relay behind the fusebox which should turn the current on when the button is depressed but unfortunately I don't know which one could it be. Another possible cause can be a broken wire, but for now I will assume this is not the problem. Do you know on which position is the defogger relay placed? There are around a dozen of them. A map of Lupo relays would be really great. Thank you all for your support.
  7. The same happened to me when I removed the instrument panel to fix the zero mile button. I did fix it but the airbag error light lit up and stayed on until I erased the error on the airbag control unit using VAGCOM 409.1. Thank you and all the repliers for your posts, which did help me finding the solution.
  8. Hello! I am from Lisbon and a huge fan of Lupo since we already have two in our family. I am currently driving a 3rd hand Lupo 3L I bought a year ago from 2001. I bought it with manual control of the gearbox already, it seems one of the previous owners had serious problems with the gearbox automatic servomechanism and it had to be removed to save maintenance costs. Usually I'm the one who's in charge of the maintenance and already found some issues I need to clarify among you all. My average consumption since I bought it is 3.51L/100km (80.5mpg) with a total of more than 14500km (9011 miles) of city and road driving. Thank you for joining your community.
