  1. I know this is a month old now. This is what annoys me!! People ask for help, everyone offers help, then when they fix it they dont bother sharing any knowledge and leave other people with this problem struggling.
  2. No, didnt get it skimmed, cleaned it all off to near mint, checked all over with a steel rule. No warping or deformation. Have finished today building it all back up. Have run it for about 45 mins and no problems yet (touch wood), getting a good long run tomorrow. Renewed: Water Pump All pulleys and tensioners Cam and timing belt all gaskets 2x valves Flushed coolant and oil 2nd hand rocker cover and cams Turned out the whole problem was caused by the guy that was going to buy the car before me, thrashing it from cold after being stood 3 months seems to have starved the camshafts of oil, outlet cam stuck absolutely solid, snapping the cambelt. But if it hadnt, I wouldnt have the car now, and for so cheap. Literally took a sledgehammer and heat to remove camshaft, cam and cover ruined, metal splinters, huge gauges etc. Will update tomorrow after a good run.
  3. Hey all, So my cars nearly rebuilt, needed a clip for the injector, but ended up being given a full fuel rail with wiring and injectors. My car is a V'reg 100bhp and the injectors sourced where from a 100bhp engine (so im told). I know no history of either if they have been messed with and the injectors changed. the set of injectors in my car currently have a blue band round them, while the newly sourced ones have a red band, My question is, are they the same just different colours, or has one set been swapped in from another model? (hoping red ones are gti) Newly sourced ones: Says 0590 on injector Currently in car: Says 2749 on injector Cheers
  4. -------- Update -------- Well the 2 valves and grinding paste turned up Friday in the post but due to work had to wait until this morning to fit. Hardest part was compressing the valve springs to remove valves. Had no specialist tools, or even a G-clamp so used a set of locking pliers, pushed down on the spring while the girlfriend used long nose pliers to remove the valve clips. So these where what they looked like, New vs old. Then used the grinding paste and plunger and ground in the new valves. Was decent stuff, plenty in the can, with course and fine paste. Ground in, washed all excess grit off with carb cleaner and petrol. Refitted valve springs. Once fitted started cleaning all crud and carbon build up off the other valves. Went from this: To this: Then ended with this: Going to remove all old gasket and clean up the head and maybe paint while I'm waiting for rest of the parts.
  5. ---------------------------------------- No real updates at the moment. ---------------------------------------- With it being Easter i'm waiting on parts, Ive ordered; 2 new valves, head gasket, cambelt kit, and lapping paste. Really cant wait for it all to turn up. While im waiting for parts i decided to attack the audio. Stripped the door panels, speaks and boot to fit a few bits and bobs. On another note, finally shifted my Passat. Towards the end I hated that lump of a car, glad its gone, which meant I could switch my insurance over, going down from a 2.3l to a 1.4l gave me a nice refund to my bank and the girlfriend added to my policy for no cost. So far including parts and the cost of the car Ive only spent £400. Insurance cost me nothing, just needs taxing, so for just under £500 I'll have a lovely car that I know is mechanically sound as ive built it up. Right thats about it, will update again when i have some real progress.
  6. Hey everyone, So last Tuesday I picked up my Lupo Sport which is in a rather sad state, but for such an amazingly low price I couldn't resist. Always wanted a lupo, so this is to be my project toy. Heres some pictures (previous owner took these, yet to take my own) : My other Dubs: Golf 1.8T (Now sold) Golf GTI (Now sold) Passat Vr5 170bhp So the story is, I was wanting it for a while but someone ended up getting to view it before I got chance, so I gave up. A day later I saw that the test pilot that went to buy it, thrashed it up the road from cold and snapped the cambelt. I knew I had to have it, so offered low and was told I could have it, set off next day, 5 in the morning for a 6 hour round drive and dragged it back home. So far I have stripped the head off to find.......ONLY 2 BENT VALVES!! Extremely happy No damage to head or pistons. Other problem is I need to replace this: I have loads of ideas for it, which will all be tackled once I get the engine up and running. Will update with engine pics soon. Regards, Ben.
