  4. putney, the discs are "split in the middle" thats where they are ventilated.. also.. i was going to ask what youre going to do with clutch and gearbox when you upgrade the engine till about 160bhp.. that might make the dependency of how you go through the gears a lot more important (if you are not smooth as butter it might ruin those bits rather quickly?). i know the guy with the 200bhp polo had a lot of problems from that direction!
  5. id still be interested in testing the experience tho, even stil with the cluch being "manual" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />.. no more misshifts from that wide h pattern.. TSR is the only one doing this right? does anybody have a clue if they are any good?

    Big Brakes

pads are DS2500 (i had to reconstruct the number from a photograph i sent matt, the packages were lost in the garage) if you have a mail address ill send you the shot too DS2500 means, in german style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> "DS 2500 besteht aus einem neuen im Rennsport entwickelten Material, geeignet für hohe Belastungen sowohl bei leichten als auch bei schweren Fahrzeugen. Geringer Abrieb, scheibenfreundlich, geringe Verschmutzung der Felgen, geräuscharm und eine lange Lebensdauer sind die hervorragenden Eigenschaften dieses neuen Materials. Ein gleichmäßig hoher Reibwert (0,50) sowohl bei niedrigen als auch bei sehr hohen Temperaturen und eine hohe Druckfestigkeit gewährleisten einen konstanten Pedaldruck und eine optimale Dosierbarkeit." for the hoses, yes, having a template helps, for the connections aswell as the length! borrow one from yr local dealer (the guy from my garage gave me his old Polo GT hose, the only difference being that one is a bit shorter) and, yes im tempted by the exhaust, but very much skint aswell, so deffo `no-go` on that one Edited By bAAx on July 26 2002 at 17:13

    Big Brakes

yip, finding parts for a car nobody really has seen/heard of before IS a pain, even on this side of the channel (and ESPECIALLY in this potatocountry) "ah yes, a polo GTi" is the common mistake and every upgrade is a struggle.. not in the least because even VW doesnt know how its baby GTi is put together style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> ill get you the pad ids this evening, the package is at home.. cheers

    Big Brakes

... uhu... darn i wish i had mates to compete with a little style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />.. or maybe that would cost a little bit too much dough.. well, concerning those hoses.. im sure, no POSITIVE you can get the same quality stuuf over there.. i found these guys looking for distributors of APracing brakes, from the APracing website.. im sure this search will yield an adequate brake specialist that will know what to do with your special request style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> .. and, dont forget.. 10mm diameter, NOT 12 style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> and, ATE IS a firm.. they do have a site too.. but its all a bit complicated.. no cupcar brakes there as far as i could tell

    Big Brakes

well, man3.. ive got the ferodo pads fitted now, aswell as a new fill of APracing "600" brake fluid... pads are now run in and provide significantly greater stopping power than OEMs.. so braking power is up to a level where you can now quite easily get the ABS in action on dry surface, but the brakeforce delivery from pedal to caliper still seems soggy cause the steel lines are STILL not in place.. they were custom made to specs from the guy from the `VW-garage`, unfortunately the VW `parts-list` mentions the connection to the caliper as being 12mm dia. whereas its really 10, so i m going to have to have them redone arg... i dont know if you would need bigger discs on the lupo GTi in standard state of tune as already this little upgrade yields pretty impressive results.. now i only need/want/expect a more clear pressure point (ie a smaller amount of travel of the brake pedal when the pads go from "stroking" the discs to really gripping it) from those steel lines. what is certain though is that youre going to need a bit of reorientation after a brake upgrade.. you can REALLY brake later, but that realisation sinks in quite slowly style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />.. usually, im just standing still a bit away from the turns now style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> braking is also an a lot more stable operation (maybe not so on the standard suspension style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) more news later when those damn steel lines get fitted in about `3-4` weeks
  10. do you have a link for this?

    ******* the GTi

i was, too, very surprised with the gains, but cédric SWEARS those numbers are for real style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> and from what i gather this "monsieur" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> is very serious indeed about the quality of his upgrades. i can understand VW would strangle the potential of their engine to always be on the safe and durable side by a margin of at least 200% style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />, hence, as ia am a very "caring" `car-owner`, i could have the "powerchips" engineers factor out a couple of those security variables (i will always use good fuel, and service the car regularly) for my driving pleasure, without even compromising engine life or reliability. (at least thats what i hope) to drive my point home: chucking the OEM suspension for those bilsteins yielded MORE than a 15% "handling gain" imho, so why wouldnt there be more in the engine too? and concerning the `ecu-box` boobytrap issues.. you can send the detached box as a whole to powerchips to have them do the work and defuse any surprises VW might have laid out for you style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> so that should solve things, wouldnt you agee? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

    ******* the GTi

*lifts up the veil that hangs over what possibly could be the next mod for my loop* ... CHIPPIN! in the footsteps of the great milmil or cédric that is sometimes seen here in order to promote his (*very*) french `GTi-site` ( style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> sorry cédric).. my mind is, albeit slowly, getting into the idea of an ENGINE mod !! according to cédric his loop is completely transformed by the procedure, and he gets better consumption in the process.. the man continued: those 16 more bhps and around 20 more lbs of torque (at a lower rpm too) can really, REALLY be felt. THIS is his chipping company of choice
  13. to the ppl still following this: a fat "bigupyaself".. hoses due to arrive in the mail today, but the guy who would place em is booked till after my departure on holidayz.. im gonna have to make do w standard stuff on the norway twistiez, and no reviews of the gear before a month from now or so.. sorry chums, but thats modding the very rare GTi for ya.. a lot of ppl scratching their heads and very, very long waits.
  14. got the pads/oil, now waiting for hoses, theyre still in production.. will arrive by the end of the week.. placement soon after.. the crap looks the buisiness.. well scuffed with the suppliers too very professional ppl. specs and results will follow style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  15. dont think that is fitted actually, got the price directly from ppl @ eibach, not some dodgy mechanic. good steel is expensive you know style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> and i hope ill soon get a chance to measure the diameter of said bar, to clear up the uncertainty style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> the ppl @ eibach told me that for the golf they made a replacement then VW changed the standard spec to the eibach thickness, so there was no longer the need to upgrade... maybe they got it good the first time on the GTi, well soon find out..
