  1. Hi All it's been a while since i was last on here. This was mainly due to being forced off the road in my last GTI sad to say it was written off. I am happy to say I did get another GTI to finish what I had started. I am now here with gearbox related issue on my 52 Plate 6 speed. Having looked about at the scenarios eg whining when decelerating in 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th decided to take my car to my trusted VW specialist (Used him for the last 4 years) for a gearbox rebuild. First choice was Bristol Transmissions who wanted £1k for a full refurb (To pricey) Second was TES Transmissions In Westbury £550 + VAT We went with TES and further to reading their site they seemed as good as my mechanics first choice. Long and short is the whine would usually be in deceleration and 2,500 and 2,000 RPM through the mentioned gears. TES found the final drive going when the box was opened and it’s been said by my mechanic that the box was fully refurbished all new bearings. Now since the box has come back I had a whole new clutch fitted at the same time and the issue is worse than before. I now get the whine through 3,500 to 1,900 rpm in the previously mentioned gears. In addition going from 3rd to 1st gear when climbing a hill in Devon at the weekend was difficult eg stiff to select now this has been the same since and from any gear into 1st. The selection is stiff unless I’m at an almost standstill and in most cases it will only slide easily when stationary. I Will be looking at going back to my Mechanic but he has dismissed the gearbox being the problem and put it down to loose flex pipes in the exhaust where they have been moved for him to work (This I will check tomorrow at an exhaust specialist) Is anyone able to comment on the above help is appreciated??

    Air Filters/CAD

VAGcom is diagnostics a computer in a garage that plugs into the car behind the ashtray to find out faults.

Diameter is 3" or 76mm on the outlet of the induction kit the measurements are on the ebay page and the TB is usually 2.5" or 63mm you can get 76mm to 63mm 90 degree silicone reducer for it to fit the unit. Breather would need to be connected ideally into the 90 degree reducer as that's the set up with the original air box others have done it i found 2 examples have a look as i have done to much of that lately other option is oil catch tank though first option would be better no oil to get rid of every so often and that is how VW set it up in the standard airbox. As for engine running like death that doesn't give us any idea what you mean by that an you haven't said what car you are driving? Would the induction kit help in short no as others have posted on here there are no gains from any of the above mods other than noise or "response" if you read the first link i posted a paper filter is ideally the better option over induction or any other panel replacement as they are made from the same stuff and don't filter as good as they make out. Use search look through the various threads on here with words like CAD, Induction Kit, BMC or Airbox for ideas.

Hi all i have been for the last day or two looking at everyones various topics on CAD and Airbox mods and decided to look into it further. In my initial search i concluded that a replacement filter would suite as the cost of a BMC wasn't warranted considering you don't get any gain the only benifit is and i quote "making your car sound like a charging elephant" good quote. Further to deciding on panel filter replacement i looked at the different filters available and when i compared the various BMC, Green, ITG, K&N and PX i came across an in depth page as to what was better an OEM paper filter at £3-5 of an after market at £40ish very interesting read i don't profess to know a lot about engines but though it's worth a read for those interested and or considering the previously mentioned. http://www.max-boost.co.uk/max-boost/intake/intake.htm#highflowreplacementairfilters For those of you that still want a BMC i did find a suitable alternative for those not wanting to shell out the premium and it won't break the bank at £40+ postage exactly the same case only difference is the logo that is probably just a sticker and the shape of the cone filter inside the unit amazing what corporate branding can do for a company and the acclaimed gains from the product. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Carbon-Fibre-Forced-Cold-Air-Induction-Kit-3%22-Flex-Hose_W0QQitemZ220666647450QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=220248320038&rvr_id=220248320038&cguid=6d691ee012e0a0aa1300ec50fdd57fa4#vi-desc Hope you all enjoy.

Saw you as i drove to Huddersfield on Friday late evening.
  8. It's not easy getting in the GTi lights if you have big hands. Good job that the side lights aren't in the main beam or i would have got stuck!!!!! lol
  9. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=led%20501%20bulbs Any of the ones in that search should do you depending on what your after all the colours possible.
  10. Hi guys got my LED side light bulbs thought i'd share the pic's... Here is a pic of the back of the light unit in the engine bay. Some of you seem to have got stuck after taking the back off, what your after is the small black unit in the picture with the 2 wires going into it. Admittedly these things are not the easiest beggars to get out persuasion or use of pliers will get them out. Before fitting the bulb back in make sure you have the bulb the right way round or they won't light up. Once fitted they look like this.... here's the before... Here's the after...
  11. Mine don't get in the way and mines cup on right by steering wheel and coin on left. Strange EDIT mines under the console
  12. What i want to hear now i've been thinking last night do i go all white or white with different coloured backs courgredcough?? Hmmmm
  13. Thanks just been getting som conflicting views on powder coating from local wheel refurb company's. Seeing your pics is making me want powder coating as the finish looks really good what i'm after really.
  14. Hey fella nice job, what kind of finnish does the powder coating give? I've heard it can be quite rough/nobbly is the finish smooth and shiny all over the wheel??
  15. Question is how shiny is their powder coating finnish? Is powder coating a matt finnish? I'm really after something that would shine with the rest of the car. Views on powder coating V's Base Coat N Lacquer?
