  3. Well after buying some brake carriers (not ever arrived yet) and looking for some 15" wheels to fit over 280mm disks, I am talking my self out of it, Its going to cost me a good 300 - 500 all in and I just cant justify spending that money when I have a new baby on the way. I will need to check out the front pads and rear shoes and just have to get them replaced. Is there any one in the Cheshire area willing to help me replace them to cut costs down? was thinking new pads and rear shoes and replace brake fluid should make a big difference. Dose anyone want to buy some 280m carriers
  4. Thanks guys bought this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180991004837 and sent an email to the seller of the bigger one, lets hope its ok, besides it auction dose state Arosa 07 - 04, and as its a left hand model is should be the smaller one. Will keep you posted.
  5. Hi all, hope you can help me out as this is driving me carzy I bought the Y reg Arosa and It had damage to the passenger wing mirror. Only recently noticed that the passenger one is smaller than the drivers one. I am not sure if this is what's classed as a stubby one? So I bought this of ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300759053494?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 When I spoke to the man on the phone he explained to me that they all used to be small but the people complained so they made the drivers one bigger to improve visibility. ??? Anyhow he assured me that this one was the correct one (smaller). So it came today and it the same size as the drivers one!!! So I don't know can someone tell me if they should be bother this same size and if so where can I get my hands on the main mirror unit or where I can get the smaller cover? Can someone help me please? Also where do I get paint maid up in to a spray car? Halfords?
  6. Sorry don't work for them,... It's a mine field out there
  7. I was just thinking, if I was to put spacers on the front to make the wheel come further out would that work? if its just the wheel touching the carriers then I think it might but it its the disk touching the top of the disk or calliper then I guess it wont.
  8. Just letting you know what things can affect it thats all, I deal with Aviva on a daily bases. Just run through a quote my self, came back at £300+ but then changed my name and nothing else and if failed to quote me and price. See below about the credit check. Things you need to know In order to assess the terms of the insurance contract or administer claims that arise, Aviva may need to collect data that the Data Protection Act defines as sensitive (such as medical conditions or criminal convictions). By proceeding with this application you will signify your consent to such information being processed by the insurer or its agents. Also, by continuing you agree to the following: To make sure you get our best deal and to ascertain the most appropriate payment options for you and to detect and prevent fraud, we use public and personal data from a variety of sources, including credit reference and fraud prevention agencies, and other organisations. Our search will appear on your credit report whether or not your application proceeds. Find out more Where we provide you with an insurance quotation and you choose not to proceed, we may pass your details, including any sensitive information, to a business partner so that they can contact you to try to fulfil your insurance needs.
  9. I work for an insurance software house and I can guarantee you that your name on its own is not the reason you insurance went up. Names are not a rating factor, address yes but not name. When you changed your parent names (additional drivers) did you update there date of births? I noticed that once you parents turn a (certain age) they become a liability rather than a easy discount. But each underwriter has its own cirtira and it changed every day, (thats why comparable web sites no longer guarantee you premium for more that a day) Hoo! also forgot, aviva when doing a motor quote, will do a credit check on you to see if they can offer you payments via instalments, if you say you do not want to agree to a credit check then the premiums go way up as its more risk. If you have said Yes to a credit check then the fact you name is not on the records at your friends address will also cause the price increase. hope this helps explain things a bit better.
  10. Hi all Now I have fixed by clunking doors and upgraded the speakers, its time to think about improving the braking power. To be honest I am worried that my rear brakes shows are non existent as it sounds a little bit like metal on metal I have the standerd 14" wheels that come with the 1.4 TDI And I would like to keep them but I want to do the 280mm disk upgrade, but changing the carriers and disks and keeping my current callipers. Question 1 - Will I have to get 15" wheels or will my current 14" ones clear the brakes? Dose anyone have a set of carriers for sale that I can buy? I have seen some sets / kits on ebay but they are all looking a bit on the rusty side as they have come off cars from the early 90s. This would not bother me if I just bought carriers but they are selling callipers with them also and not sure how good 20 year old callipers will perform. Question 2 - Is there a noticeable difference in stopping power if I upgrade the callipers to G60s also instead of keeping my 256 (1.4 DTI) callipers? Question 3 - Will any steel / alloy wheels with an stud pattern of 4x100 fit over the G60 brakes? Also I think one of my wheel bearings are on the way out at the front, is this something that can by done at home or is it a non DIY job? Thanks for you help Silvio
  11. Thanks, followed that and got it done on the drivers side, will do the other at the weekend, I think I have not screwed it quite back on square as its clipping the metal on the door where the rubber seal would be, I had to bend the metal back a bit to stop it rubbing. But its way better to chuffed. :-)
  12. Hi all, Please can someone help me with replacing the check strap on my Arosa.
