  1. Will decatting my 2001 GTI make the engine light come on and lose power? I want real stories from people who actual run decats on GTI's please... None of this word of mouth rubbish. Lol
  2. Precisely! And at what point do you think its a good idea to drift in a VW lupo?! Stretched tyres are designed to "let go" easier and more violoently than a tyre with a taller sidewall. The give in the sidewall makes it more progressive and controllable when on the limit of grip. Anyone who tells you otherwise clearly isnt a dedicated driver, with handling, drivability and fun as a priority. Anyway, to the Op, i think you're GTI looks great on the Lenso's! I'd stick some Toyo T1r's on them, then lower it a bit at the back and drive it!
  3. A-Men to that! Stretching should be illegal! A lupo GTI is all about the fun, chuckable handling, not being scared to go above 30mph in wet conditions, or go over 100mph cus you might get a blowout.
  4. If it was me, i would definitely run those Focals amped up. They simply arent gonna sound brilliant off head unit power (15-20rms). A good 80-100 watts of clean power is what they really need. However, what you will gain is a lifted sound stage, which can be obtained through well planned tweeter location. Expect these components to distort before the standard speakers, as you are gonna start clipping them at an early stage off the head unit. Although, run them off an amp and they yours ears will tell you to turn the volume down way before the speakers do!
  5. The only reason you lose torque with a decat is if the rest of the exhaust is too large in diameter. The cat is a restriction, be it sports cat or not and you're engine WILL breath better without one. This restriction (cat) is what gains you power lower in the rev range, removing it will effectively shift this power band further up the range but will also release more bhp. To overcome the torque loss, the exhaust should be made from a reasonable diameter pipe which will keep the power range lower down, creating more torque. To sum up, a large diameter pipe gives you more power at high revs, a small diameter pipe gives you more power at low revs. The cat, in effect is decreasing the diameter as it is a restriction. This information was given to me by a Mr John Ashley in Walsall, who builds manifold/race/grup n systems for a living.
  6. Didnt know this... I just thought the HID's stayed on low beam, and the other light unit did all the work for high beam?
  7. Has anyone fitted a H3 HID kit to their main beam on a gti? The standard yellow bulbs really let the front end down at night. Dont want crappy halfrauds blue bulbs either. In my experience, they dont give out as much light as a standard yellow bulb and i like to "drive" my gti, so good lights are a must really.
  8. The VW hub centre bore is 57mm, whereas the Vaux centre bore is only 56mm, so they definitely wont fit straight on. You'd have to get them machined out.
  9. Check out the centre bores before you commit to buying them. I think the Vauxhall bore might be smaller than VW, therefore they wont fit.
