  1. http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t167689.html Wonder if this is useful. Probably not. You have to remove the barrel before you can remove the mech I believe though.
  2. Out of curiosity why? They're all as good as plug and play now. I think the MFD1 fits, but I can't think of any others.
  3. Apologies for bringing up an old topic, but I better sort this issue lol. Would this do: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_219101_langId_-1_categoryId_165705 What about this: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_219033_langId_-1_categoryId_165705 Would the second one be better? You did say silicone grease... Quite important I get this fixed.
  4. Hey Shaun The little din tray - I'm not sure if you mean the cubby hole but this was what usually came with pov spec Lupos. It may have come with some Lupo S too, however most came with the cup holder + coin tray. If you look on ebay, you'll find mixes of both the cup holder + coin tray or two cup holders. The part is quite easily disassembled so having twin cup holders is very possible, and you could always DIY it if you got a cheap cup holder + coin tray.
  5. This might sound like the stupidest question on the planet, but can a hot day cause electrical problems? It's a really hot day today (although not compared to summer!!) and some rather strange things have been happening with the Lupo. I went back at lunch as I needed to make a phone call. The electric window for the drivers side door won't go down. It just clicks. It was fine this morning, but it just clicks now. Perhaps it's a placebo, but when I opened the passenger window it didn't sound very nice and it sounded less nice come back up. Very rattley. Along with those very strange occurrences, the faulty central locking mech on the passenger door, that I opened a thread about is now working perfectly fine. I'm completely confused! I'm afraid to drop the window now in case it doesn't go back up. Maybe the switch is just a bit dicky, or perhaps the window motor has seized up and needs replacing. Either way it's weird.
  6. I have to agree that the mobile version is excellent. However an app doesn't need to just offer the forum content. It could provide links to already filtered eBay searches, twitter feeds etc. It's more about convenience than anything else. Provide access to the classifieds section with ease. You'd be surprised what you can do
  7. Oh, and remember to grease it up at the end! That'll help. WD40 will probably do.
  8. If I get chance jamjar, I'll record a video of how to do it. It really is just a case of taking the pin out, three or four layers of heat shrink and boom, screw back in and you'll be sorted. Just take it slow, I'm sure you'll be fine
  9. To be fair Rich, there isn't anything wrong with coming on and asking for advice and it's only natural to be indecisive. This isn't a school notebook this is a car. For many members, me included, the only car we have. Some of these changes are irreversible as it may prove a financial burden to undo the work... or it may be too complicated from a technical viewpoint. It's one of the reason I regularly think twice about things I'd like to do, even when the instructions are there in front of me. Ultimately, I like my red Lupo (Although I miss my Green Machine pov spec Lupo more, that was my third love behind my gf and Stoke City lol) but it's important I get to work, safely, everyday, so I always prioritize that before starting any projects on my car lol.
  10. I think most people retro-fitting heated seats use the wiring loom from the Golf MKIV. Apparently it's almost perfect for a Lupo, and requires one or two little tweaks. Don't know if it'll work with your seats though.
  11. It was the previous owner who changed the strap, so it probably didn't moan to begin with, but as the metal washer inside began to wear (in a similar fashion to the nylon bush) it began creaking and cracking. What I noticed though was that the passenger door was considerably louder than the drivers door. The drivers door was a very loud but deadened thud, whereas the passenger door was a very tinny noise that sort of clicked, if you get me. It easily woke the neighbours late at night. If I get chance one weekend, I'll remove the heat shrink to demonstrate what I mean. The bracket seems to be fine with regards to being attached to the body. The impact is coming when each notch is hit, the latch is slipping and whacking the pin very hard. It was exactly the same on my previous Lupo which I just regularly oiled. It didn't remove it, but it helped reduce the sound. No, the check strap pin in the passenger door is identical to the one in the drivers door, or at least it looks it. I probably should have looked more closely though. The noise is coming from the strap hitting the pin, so the change in metal could definitely make an impact in the amount of noise. If you're getting noise, on a new check strap, I definitely recommend just one or maybe two if you can layers of heat shrink. You'll reduce the wear on the check strap and you'll probably kill the noise completely.
  12. Woooah, I think I've been pretty lucky compared to some of you guys hehe, however here goes: Lupo E 1.0 (was bought with roughly 50k miles on, I put about 48k on before it was written off in January this year) - Bonnet release packed up a day after we got it, so on about 50k miles.Temperature Sensor to dials was never working, but to ECU was working.OEM Exhaust fell off at about 80k miles (pretty excellent for OEM by the way so don't take that as a negative)Brake Light Switch failed after about 80k milesLambda Sensor failed after about 75k milesRear Washer clip split causing leak into boot (Fix was to simply replace clip and tube with one, long piece of tube).Drivers Door Lock barrel seized up at about 75k milesCoolant Level Sensor failed after about 85k miles.Front discs went at about 90k.Battery began to fail at about 90k miles.Generally seemed to have issues with static on aftermarket radios (I minimized it as much as I could after lots and lots and lots and lots of diagnosing, but it never truly went)So considering most of that is disposable, I wasn't too disappointed. Lupo S 1.7 SDI (bought in January after the 1.0 E was written off) - Passenger Door Central Locking mechanism is faulty.Replacement Passenger Door Central locking mechanism has developed the same fault as the previous Rear Water Jet has seized up.Rear Heated Window, the top 5 heating elements don't work.Previous owner has also replaced the drivers door lock barrel which seized up.Half the third brake light didn't illuminate (replaced using one from scrappy)Light behind heater controls is constantly flickering. Two bits of bubbling on the roof.Starter motor sometimes whines in the cold, fine in the warm.I think compared to some of you guys, I've got off pretty lightly in truth lol!
  13. Nooo, not the Audi bumper mod lol
  14. Turns out this won't fit by the way. I know this thread is a few months old but it's worth clarifying for anyone who might come looking for this answer.
  15. Ohhhhhhhhhhh the plot thickens. So it works almost perfectly in the morning, but not in the afternoon. When I say almost perfectly, if I put the key in the lock and lock it, it locks the drivers door but the passenger door doesn't lock. If I lock it again, with the drivers door locked, it locks perfectly. Drivers side locks the car perfectly of course. In the afternoon, it's like the thing is disconnected, and will only lock from the drivers side. Could that be something to do with moisture or some ****? Solder isn't sealed from moisture if I remember? I am going to fit an aftermarket remote central locking on Saturday I hope. This will be interesting
  16. Absolutely. You can buy them off eBay and various places. They're about 40 quid brand new, delivered. Don't make the mistake I did and buy a second hand one. I was stupid and figured it would fix the problem, which it did, but the new one was just as worn as the old one and has pretty much developed all of the same faults as the last one. Although it's more hit and miss than anything.
  17. Well, I don't know if you can use the 1.0 MPI gearbox on the 1.4, but I know of a few people who put the 1.4 gearbox in a 1.0 MPI, so maybe it's both ways? I imagine you'll get a pretty nippy 1.4 off the blocks anyway with absolutely nothing at the top end lol!
  18. Skezza

    So far so good

Hey dude, that looks sweet, but you could do with getting a build thread in the Members Section. Detail what you've done, when you did it, maybe how much it cost etc Good for people to know
  19. Yeah, my passenger side has a replacement check strap with the metal removable washer......... which creaks and cracks even louder than the driver door (before I heat shrinked of course). I agree that greasing it can help reduce the wear though. The fact is, the hinge on a Lupo is quite a poor design. A rare miss so to speak on VW's part. Doesn't matter how many check straps you fit, you'll never cure the fact the door is far too heavy for the hinge design, which is the reason they used a check strap in the first place. The reason they wear is because their is quite a large impact each time the door notches, even the new ones. You can see it for yourself, just the same on a new one, you'll see there's an impact. Feel free to buy a new one, at the end of the day, it's up to you, but by purchasing a new one, you're spending money unnecessarily on a problem that's only annoying and that WILL return... fact. Using heat shrink is a cheap, easy fix that probably takes even less time than fitting a new check strap. If I was to buy a new one, I'd still wrap the pin in heat shrink simply to reduce the impact.
  20. Central locking microswitches are nackered due to dodgy soldering. Probably the same problem I, and everyone else seems to be having right now lol Fix 1: Disassemble lock, remove CL mech, dismantle resolder microswitches. Fix 2: Disassemble lock, replace CL mech with new one. Either way it's a pain.
  21. Well, you could always curve that stupidity and add something relevant? Instead, by writing that, you've simply added to the stupidity creating an almost stupidity wormhole that everyone is going to be dragged into.
  22. I kind of thought this myself. Hope you've not done any permanent damage.
